Cedric

Not a very good picture, but Cedric is not the most photogenic of hamsters. He breathes with his mouth, and has a perpetually stupid expression. My mom named him Cedric after the character from Harry Potter, or more specifically the actor who plays the movie version of Cedric. By the time we realized that she meant Neville, it was too late; the name stuck. He's a nice hamster anyway, despite looking a little dim.

He sleeps all day and runs on his wheel all night. He got an infection on his foot so we had to take his wheel out, and we ended up putting tape around the wheel so his feet wouldn't fall through the little holes anymore; he's too large for any solid wheel we could find. So now he has a really silly looking wheel, but continues to run on it, jump off, run through around his house and in a circle, jump back on the wheel and keep running.

He also seems to be unable to figure out the ramp that takes him to the second level; to get down, he grabs the wire floor with his feet and leans all the way down the opposite side of the hole the ramp goes down, until his hands touch the ramp, then flips himself through the hole and falls down the ramp. This contributes to his general air of a slight slowness on the uptake. He gets very aggressive when he doesn't want to be held, which is rather amusing; it is quite funny to see a hamster menacing someone's hand, rearing up and baring his teeth. We're trying to cure him of those murderous impulses, though.

Regular hamster food, carrots and celery and other vegetables. He likes celery the best.
