A Good Dog

Sydney

This story is about Sydney
Our family saved Sydney's life, our Australian Heeler, when we adopted her from the animal shelter about 10 years ago. She was a happy, gentle playmate for our two sons. That is, unless the boys ran around the yard and she thought it was her duty to "nip" at their heels to herd them! Of course, she never hurt the boys and the boys loved it.

Later, when a dog moved in with the family next door, Sydney took it upon herself to visit the dog next door. Many times a day, she would leap to the top of the 7 foot cinder block wall that separated our two houses. She would hang on the wall, look at her new canine neighbor and then slide down the wall. We never had to trim her nails because of the multiple daily nail filing she gave herself sliding down the wall.

A few years later, when at a pool, we discovered that Sydney loved to be by the water, but not in it. She acted as a sort of lifeguard watching our sons swim while she nipped at the water. One of our favorite memories is Sydney nipping at the water from a water gun!

Now, in her older age, Sydney is still a loving companion, eager to walk and play with her "older boys." After her outings, she settles down for a long rest to rejuvenate her aging muscles. What a good dog!

I have a story concerning Sydney myself. I don't know if this is the place to share it, but if it's not I can probably get rid of it.
I'm not overly comfortable around a lot of people I don't know, and I went to a recital of Jeremy's toward the beginning of the year. When I came to the reception afterwards, I didn't know anyone except Jeremy, and it was at a time when I still didn't like to talk to people unless they talked to me first, even people I knew, so I ended up standing around staring off into space until a dog came up and asked to be pet. She was very friendly, and I was immediately charmed by her.
