When our sons were young, we drove from the dry, sweltering heat of a Las Vegas, Nevada summer to the lush, green coast of Washington state. The boys were soon intrigued by the banana slugs that crawled in the yard and nearby forests surrounding our relatives home. They convinced us that banana slugs would make good pets. They didn't take much room, ate vegetable and garden scraps, and were quiet. Our relatives were eager to have some of the slugs removed from their property and so, it was a deal. The four banana slugs traveled home in a jar, and then moved into their aquarium. Our sons enjoyed that the slugs were always available. They had no shells and did not hide. Although they didn't like to be handled they were fun to examine. They were a big hit with the friends.
